Cold Emailing : LemlistXHubSpot

If you ever wonder if you can use the Hubspot CRM for cold emailing, the answer is NO. It is against HubSpot’s policy and therefore doesn’t allow any HubSpot tools to be used to email cold contacts. From a deliverability standpoint, cold outreach should be avoided to prevent damage to your sending reputation.

But with the use of Zapier, you can send your prospects from cold emailing tools like Lemlist or Mailshake directly to HubSpot depending on the actions they take like opening an email, replying to an email, clicking a link from an email etc. We’ll be using Lemlist on this tutorial, here’s what to do:

Create Lemlist Campaign

Create a campaign in Lemlist, just follow through the steps. You can import contacts or manually add them to your campaign. After that, set up your campaign flow and create the contents for your emails. It is up to you how you will decide on the sequence if each email you’ll send, you can add time intervals between sending of each email. Lastly schedule your campaign, but don’t launch it for the meantime. The next step is important before starting the campaign.

Create Lemlist-to-HubSpot Zap in Zapier

Login to Zapier and create a new Zap.

Zapier Zap Set up

Choose the following options for each dropdown:

Choose App & Event

  • App => Lemlist
  • Trigger Event => New Activity

Choose Account

  • Select and login your Lemlist account

Set Up Trigger

  • Campaign => Choose your campaign in Lemlist
  • Event Type => Emails Opened or anything you prefer more, click on the select dropdown for other options.
  • Only First => True

Test Trigger

  • Optional, you can test your trigger or skip but it is recommended that you test it to make sure your trigger is working correctly.

After connecting to your Lemlist account and setting up the trigger, next is to set up the action. We need to add new contacts to HubSpot from the Lemlist campaign, Choose the following options for each dropdown:

  • App => HubSpot
  • Trigger Event => Create Contact

Choose Account

  • Select and login your HubSpot account

Set Up Action

For this option, you can select all the data that you want to send to HubSpot like contact information, company information and LinkedIn or Facebook information like links to profile.

Test Trigger

  • Optional, you can test your trigger or skip but it is recommended that you test it to make sure your trigger is working correctly.

After setting this up, turn the Zap on and go back to your Lemlist account to start the campaign. When your target prospects trigger any action like opening the cold emails sent by Lemlist, the Zapier integration will automatically pull data from that prospect and send it to HubSpot to create a New Contact. This method is useful if you want to grow your HubSpot Contact list and gain more customers. HubSpot is a good inbound marketing software but  prohibits cold emailing, that’s where Zapier comes in. It connects different softwares with ease!
